Nina Singh IPS officer of the 1989 batch from Rajasthan cadre has taken charge as the first women officer of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) in December 2023.

Date of Birth and Family of Nina Singh IPS

Nina Singh was born on 11 July 1954 in Patna, Bihar. His father was R.N. Singh, an IAS officer who served as Chief Secretary of Bihar.

Nina Singh cograduatedrom Women’s College in Patna, Bihar. She pursued her post-graduation at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Delhi. Later, she earned a master’s in public administration from Harvard University, USA.

Civil Services Exam, 1988

She successfully cleared the UPSC Civil Services Exam in 1988 and entered the IPS services in 1989. Initially, she was allocated the joint cadre of Manipur and Tripura.

Husband of Nina Singh IPS

Nina Singh married Rohit Kumar Singh, an IAS officer from her batch of 1989. Rohit Kumar Singh, IAS, was serving in the Rajasthan cadre. After marriage, her cadre was changed from Manipur and Tripura to Rajasthan, as per rules and procedures. Currently, as of January 2024, Rohit Kumar Singh, IAS is serving as the Secretary of Consumer Affairs in the Central government.

Police Service in Rajasthan and Other

In Rajasthan, Nina Singh served in various districts and held diverse positions. She did exemplary work in Rajasthan and earned the prestigious President’s Police Medal. On 1 August 2021, she was appointed as the Director General (DG) of the Rajasthan Police, making her the first female IPS officer to hold this position in the Rajasthan Police.

She spearheaded an evidence-based reform initiative of the Rajasthan Police in collaboration with MIT, USA. Additionally, Singh co-authored research papers with the 2019 Nobel Prize winners in economics, Abhijit Banerjee, and Esther Duflo.

Previously, Nina Singh served as the Joint Director of CBI from 2013 to 2018, overseeing numerous high-profile cases with national and international implications.

First Women DG of CISF

In December 2023, Nina Singh, IPS was appointed as Director General of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). She is the first female chief of the CISF. Before that, she held the post of Special DG in the CISF.

Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) is a central paramilitary force that manages airports, Delhi Metro, government buildings, and strategic buildings throughout the country. The CISF has about 1.76 lakh personnel.
